Puppy Essentials
Food

At Bella's House, we believe that nutritious food is key to having a happy, healthy Doodle for life. We recommend a holistic, US-sourced pet food brand called Life's Abundance. This food is ethically produced and formulated by a holistic veterinarian. It has been chemical, additive, and recall-free since the company's founding just over 20 years ago. We trust this food and you can be confident in its quality and health for your puppy.
Treats

Some of our puppies favorite treats include the Beef Recipe Snack Sticks, the Pork & Apple Sausages, and the Water Buffalo Lungs. Additionally, we've found that they enjoy the Ugly Bones Dental Treat!

Food & Water DIshes

-
Safe & Durable Design
Crafted from high-quality, food-grade stainless steel and BPA-free silicone, this dog bowl set is perfect for messy eaters—whether you have a playful puppy or a full-grown dog. It's a convenient, all-in-one feeding solution for water and food. -
High-Quality Stainless Steel Bowls
Each bowl is rust-resistant, anti-corrosive, and built to last. The non-slip design keeps them steady during mealtime, while the food-grade material ensures a safe, hygienic experience for your pet. They're also easy to detach from the silicone mat and 100% dishwasher safe. -
No-Spill Silicone Mat
The raised edges of the silicone mat catch spills and splashes to help keep your floors clean. It also keeps the bowls securely in place while your pet eats or drinks. Flexible and foldable, the mat is ideal for travel and compact storage.
Wire Crate

We recommend a wire crate with an adjustable divider panel and two doors. The divider allows you to shrink the crate while your puppy is small and gradually expand it as they grow.
-
For larger doodles, many families prefer 42”–48” crates, which provide plenty of space as your puppy grows. Smaller breeds may be comfortable in 30”–36” crates.
-
Having a crate large enough for adulthood means you only need to purchase one crate that your puppy can grow into.
Reflective Collar

Puppies grow quickly, so we recommend starting with a simple adjustable collar. Most puppies will begin in a small size and grow out of it quickly, which is why many families prefer an inexpensive starter option.
Your puppy will actually go home wearing a small breakaway-style cat collar with a bell. We find the bell helpful during those first few days at home when puppies are still exploring their new environment, and the breakaway feature adds an extra layer of safety while they’re adjusting.
As your puppy grows, reflective collars are a great option because they are durable, adjustable, and easy to see in low light.
Reflective 2 Handle Leash

A leash is another essential item for your puppy as they begin learning leash skills and exploring the world around them. Your puppy will go home with a thin starter leash, which works well for those early introductions to leash walking and supervised outings.
As your puppy grows and becomes more confident on leash, many families choose to transition to a slightly thicker, more durable leash that will hold up well for everyday walks and adventures.
Dog bed

Many families start with a simple, washable bed while their puppy is young, as puppies may chew or damage bedding during the early months.
Grooming Tools For Doodles
Chris Christensen Slicker Brush

This brush is widely considered the gold standard for doodle coats, and many professional groomers swear by it. The extra long pins allow you to brush all the way through the coat rather than just the surface, which is essential for preventing matting as your puppy’s adult coat comes in.
If you plan to keep your dog in a longer “teddy bear” style coat, investing in a high-quality slicker brush like this can make brushing much easier and more effective.
It’s definitely an investment, but many families find it lasts for years and makes a noticeable difference when maintaining a doodle coat.
Slicker Brush (Budget-Friendly Option)

If you're not quite ready to invest in a professional grooming brush, this is a great budget-friendly alternative that still works well for regular brushing at home.
Like the Chris Christensen brush, it features longer pins that help reach deeper into the coat, making it easier to detangle and prevent matting between grooming appointments.
Many Bella’s families start with this option and upgrade later if they decide to keep their dog in a longer coat.
Metal Comb

A metal comb helps check your brushing work and reach areas that are prone to matting such as under the ears, around the face, the tail, and between the toes.
Dremel Nail Grinder

Many owners prefer a dremel-style nail grinder because it allows gradual trimming and reduces the risk of cutting nails too short.
Dematting comb

Even with regular brushing, small tangles can occasionally form in areas like behind the ears, under the collar, or along the underbelly. A dematting comb can help gently work through these tougher knots before they turn into larger mats. Used carefully, it’s a helpful tool for maintaining your dog’s coat between grooming appointments.
Ear Cleaner

Regular ear cleaning is an important part of maintaining your dog’s overall health. Dogs with floppy ears, like many doodles, can be more prone to moisture and debris buildup. A gentle ear cleaner can help keep ears fresh and clean while reducing the chance of irritation or infection. Many families find it helpful to make ear checks and cleaning part of their regular grooming routine.
Toys & Enrichment
Kong

The Puppy KONG dog toy is customized for a growing puppy's baby teeth, with a unique, all-natural rubber formula that is the gentlest within the KONG rubber toy line. Designed to meet the needs of a puppy's 28-baby teeth, it helps teach appropriate chewing behavior, while offering enrichment and satisfying a younger pup's instinctual needs. The erratic bounce makes it ideal for those pups that just want to play. Want to make crate training easier or extend play time? Stuff your pups favorite treats in the middle!
Indoor Play Pen

-
This gives your puppy a space to play and relax while NOT getting into trouble around your home. It's larger than their crate but small enough to help with housetraining. Give your puppy regular potty breaks when playing in a pen. Once your puppy can keep the exercise pen clean, then use it as a barrier/gate to give your puppy more space in your home. These pens are especially helpful if you have young children in the home and need separate spaces to keep them apart. Vertical slats prevent your puppy from climbing out.
Tennis Balls

-
Tennis balls are a simple but great toy for interactive play. Many dogs love chasing and carrying them, making them perfect for games of fetch and helping burn off extra energy. We recommend choosing durable tennis balls made specifically for dogs, as they are designed to hold up better to chewing and play.
Crinkle, Plushy, & Squeaker Toys

-
Crinkle and squeaky plush toys are a fun way to keep puppies engaged during playtime. The different sounds naturally spark curiosity and encourage interaction, making them great for gentle play, enrichment, and independent entertainment. Many puppies enjoy carrying them around, tossing them, or snuggling with them between play sessions. As with any toy, we recommend choosing durable options designed for dogs and checking them regularly to ensure they remain in good condition.
Training & Puppy Resources
Training

At Bella's, we love the Baxter & Bella Online Puppy School! It offers training that fits your schedule and pace, and your membership lasts for the entire life of your new furry friend. With features like Zoom classes and an extensive online resource library, you’ll have all the tools you need to successfully train your newest addition!
Potty Bells

An Easier, Better Way for Your Dog to Communicate!
Dog training bells offer a straightforward and non-confrontational solution for potty training your beloved pet. They can help housebreak your dog and teach them to signal when they need to go outside. Using dog bells has proven to be a fun and effective way for your dog to communicate, rather than resorting to barking. This approach benefits both you and your furry friend!
Training Clicker

A training clicker is a simple tool that can help clearly communicate to your puppy when they’ve done something correctly. When paired with positive reinforcement and treats, the click sound marks the exact moment your puppy performs the desired behavior. Many trainers use clickers as part of reward-based training to help puppies learn new skills and build confidence.

Many families choose to keep a probiotic on hand to help maintain digestive health and support their puppy’s overall wellness.
